Canadian Union Picks GM as Next Target: The Canadian Auto Workers said General Motors of Canada Ltd. will be its next target in talks expected to be much tougher than than those that produced a job-preserving contract with Chrysler Canada Ltd. The move increases the likelihood that the United Auto Workers will target Chrysler Corp. next for talks in the U.S. Though the two unions are independent, they have closely coordinated bargaining strategy this year. The UAW settled with Ford Motor Co. last week. The decision to target GM Canada came a day after the CAW ratified the three-year Chrysler contract, which limits the company’s ability to contract jobs to outside suppliers.
