Simon Bows Out, Senate Bows In

WASHINGTON — It was the most fitting tribute that could be paid to retiring Sen. Paul Simon (D-Ill.), who always wears a bow tie.
Just before a vote Tuesday, the Senate men stripped off their neckties and clipped on blue and white polka dot bow ties. The Senate women donned scarfs of the same color.
“To say the senior senator from Illinois has influenced us all is an understatement,” said Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.), after Simon walked in with a huge grin.
