Perry Says U.S. Will Weigh Bosnia Force

Under mounting allied pressure, Defense Secretary William J. Perry promised that the United States will strongly consider sending American troops back to Bosnia next year if NATO deems it “necessary and appropriate.” Attending a meeting of alliance defense ministers in Bergen, Perry said: “I realize that many allies have said that they would only participate in a follow-on force if the United States participated.” The ministers ordered a study of any new North Atlantic Treaty Organization-led peacekeeping force in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
