Share

Music aficionados will get the chance to meet soloists with the county’s New West Symphony during a series of informal gatherings scheduled through the 1996-97 concert season.

Soloists will discuss various aspects of their careers during the free meetings, scheduled for Thursday mornings prior to each artist’s concert appearance. The “Meet the Artists” program, sponsored by the New West Symphony Conejo League, is in its second year.

Brazilian piano virtuoso Arnaldo Cohen will be the first artist appearing in the series, at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza’s Founders Room.

Cohen will be the featured soloist for the New West Symphony’s season opener Friday in the Charles E. Probst Center for the Performing Arts. The concert will feature works by Beethoven and Liszt.

The league will also host a series of preconcert dinners at 5:45 p.m. in the Founders Room. During the dinners, Lawrence Blonquist, former president of New West Symphony, will provide program notes on the works to be performed.

Cost of the preconcert dinners is $30 per person, and seating is limited. For reservations, call Kay Manders at (818) 706-0248.
