With women continuing to make strides in the economic and political sectors, why do the media continue to promote the fragile and helpless look? It appears to be nothing short of a perverted backlash.

If your style editors really wants sexy and attractive women for their fashion pages, I challenge them to visit the studio where I take martial arts. There they’ll find women who are strong, self-assured and sufficiently fed. But perhaps such a concept is too radical.

Recently, I got lost at a hospital and accidentally found myself walking through an eating-disorder ward. What struck me about the fashion preview was how closely the models’ bodies resembled those of the hospitalized anorexic patients I’d seen.

How can we be expected to admire clothes presented in such a manner?

The breathless prose of Style Editor Judy Prouty warns that “departures from the long and lean look . . . are the Edsels of the season.” As an automotive expert, let me point out that the Edsel was a good car that suffered from not much more than poor marketing. The basic product, however, was fine.
