Kevorkian Present as Cancer Victim Dies

A North Carolina psychiatrist with colon cancer died with help from Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who drove up to an emergency room and said he had a body in the car. Kevorkian drove the body of Richard Faw, 71, of Wilson, N.C., to the William Beaumont Hospital about 6 p.m. and told the doctor on duty that the man had had no vital signs for 45 minutes, a hospital spokeswoman said. Faw’s cancer had spread to his liver, pelvis, lymph nodes and bones, causing “unbearable suffering,” said Kevorkian attorney Geoffrey Fieger, who announced the death in a speech at Boston’s Northeastern University. Faw had had parts of his liver and his colon removed at Duke University Medical Center and wore a colostomy bag. At the time of his death he was taking morphine, steroids and antibiotics, Fieger said.
