Chrysler Sales Up Sharply, GM Down: Chrysler Corp. reported a robust 22% increase in its September U.S. sales of cars and light trucks compared with a year ago, capping its best model year ever. General Motors Corp. said its sales fell just over 2%, despite a nearly 13% rise in estimated sales of its light trucks. Chrysler’s strong performance was led by sales of its pickups, minivans and sport-utility vehicles--up 24% for a September record. But car sales also showed strong gains, up 17%. Overall, it was the No. 3 domestic auto maker’s second-best September ever. GM has seen its car sales lag in recent months. Every GM domestic division saw sales declines last month compared with a year ago, except Chevrolet and GMC, which recorded slight gains.
