Taiwan Bank to Acquire Far East National: Los Angeles-based Far East National Bank agreed to be acquired by Bank SinoPac of Taiwan in a cash deal valued at between $85 million and $90 million. Takeover of Far East, a commercial bank with 10 California branches and a Beijing office, is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be complete in the first half of 1997. Far East, with assets of $496 million, was the first Asian American federally chartered bank in the continental United States. Bank SinoPac, with $4.5 billion in assets and 24 branches in Taiwan, wants to use Far East to expand its financing of California-based Pacific Rim trade, a spokesman said.
