Streak of Green Light Reported in Night Sky
People from Los Angeles to San Francisco reported seeing a streak of green light across the northeastern sky Thursday night, but authorities said they do not know what it was.
“People said it was a big flash of light that was greenish-looking,” said Cheryl Longwith, a dispatcher for the Kern County Sheriff’s Department. “We got about 30 calls on it, but no one seems to know what it’s all about.”
“If it was . . . high up, it could have been a meteor or a reentering satellite,” said Frank O’Donnell, spokesman for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
Thomas Aina, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, said he received several reports of the flash from as far as San Francisco. The light was also reportedly visible as far east as Albuquerque.
