CSUN to Honor 4 ‘Phenomenal’ Women
The Cal State Northridge women’s studies department will hand out its Phenomenal Woman Awards on Sunday, honoring four women who “embody feminism in action,” CSUN officials said.
This year’s honorees are Times columnist Robin Abcarian; Juana Beatriz Gutierrez, director of Madres del Este de Los Angeles (Mothers of East Los Angeles); Betty Kozasa, senior citizen activist; and Avis Ridley-Thomas, administrator of the dispute resolution program of the Los Angeles city attorney’s office.
Bestowed each year on Los Angeles women, the awards honor community involvement and service. This year’s honorees will receive their awards at a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. at the University Club, 18111 Nordhoff St., at the corner of Nordhoff and Zelzah Avenue.
The reception and a silent auction are open to the public. Admission is $35 per person. Proceeds from the auction are to be used to fund department programs.
