Conroy Apology Would Be a Start

Share

Congratulations to Assemblyman Mickey Conroy (R-Orange) for his latest “example” of professional and ethical campaigning for the Orange County Board of Supervisors (“Conroy’s Obscene Gesture at Rival Shocks GOP Rally,” Sept. 20).

In his inability to maintain the high ethical and moral character the people of Orange County expect from a state assemblyman, Conroy made obscene gestures and shouted expletives at his opponent, Deputy Dist. Atty. Todd Spitzer.

Conroy should make a public apology to not only his opponent but to the citizens of Orange County for his childish and immature behavior. Is this the kind of behavior the citizens of Orange County can expect from any person whom we elect to run this multibillion dollar corporation we call “Orange County”? Or is his behavior consistent with the quality of performance that we can expect from someone who is being “term limited” out of Sacramento and whose most important contribution was a bill to paddle children. The people of Orange County expect and deserve more!

* I read with great interest your Sept. 26 editorial concerning Assemblyman Mickey Conroy (R-Orange) and the sexual harassment suit with which he is faced. You pointed out Conroy’s appropriate response to these charges would be to seek trial and exoneration before the election and that, if this was not done, it would be a legitimate issue for the opposition to utilize in the forthcoming campaign.

I am in complete agreement with your position in this matter. I am also curious as to whether The Times’ conclusions as regards Conroy’s problem also applies to President Clinton’s difficulties with Paula Jones.
