Clinton-Gore Ticket Wins Endorsements

The Sierra Club and two other environmental groups endorsed President Clinton and Vice President Al Gore for reelection at a rally attended by Gore. Leaders of the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club and Clean Water Action criticized Republican candidate Bob Dole’s votes on environmental matters and praised President Clinton for his actions to protect the environment. Not all of the more than 150 people at Rock Creek Park embraced the Clinton administration’s environmental record. Bernardo Issel, a spokesman for the Draft Nader for President Clearing House, called the groups’ endorsements embarrassing. Consumer advocate Ralph Nader is the candidate of the Green Party.
