Canadian Auto Strike Expansion Seen: A strike spreading to more General Motors of Canada plants is expected to cost additional jobs later this week at U.S. operations of the world’s leading auto maker. More than 6,000 Canadian Auto Workers were expected to join a strike against GM Canada at midnight Wednesday, a week after the union began its walkout. That would completely halt GM Canada’s production. Talks between the CAW and GM Canada continued, but officials reported no progress on the critical issue of outsourcing--GM’s proposal to give more work to outside contractors. GM spokesman Tom Klipstine said it is likely workers at an Ypsilanti, Mich., plant could be sent home Friday, but he said he could not speculate on the numbers.
