In a note outlining an alleged scheme to kill her husband, Nicole Garza was convinced that good acting and the bond between siblings would deflect suspicion, according to court documents made public Friday.

“You have the mental stamina to do it and forget it,” police say Garza wrote to her sister, Lynette LaFontaine-Trujillo, 34.

The note said the investigation would focus on people Jose Garza, 50, prosecuted as a deputy city attorney.

But the plot went astray when Jose Garza mistook his disguised sister-in-law for a burglar and shot her Sept. 25 during an exchange of gunfire inside the garage of his Sylmar home. LaFontaine-Trujillo died of her wounds later. Garza was unharmed.

Nicole Garza, 32, remains in custody, charged with the death of her sister and the attempt on her husband. Her attorney, Deputy Public Defender Marie Girolamo, who could not be reached Friday, has said that police have not linked Nicole Garza to the unsigned note.
