Jurassic doc:

A man phoned the Radiology Department at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia to inquire about getting a CAT scan. Not for himself. For some eggs. He wanted to confirm that they were dinosaur eggs.

LIKE FATHER, LIKE FATHER: In “The Chamber,” Faye Dunaway plays the daughter of Gene Hackman, an odd bit of casting since Dunaway is 10 years younger than Hackman in real life. Of course, such details are often overlooked in Hollywood. Consider these strange family trees, compiled with the help of Steven Herbert:

* Dustin Hoffman (born 1937) was inexplicably the son of Sean Connery (b. 1929) in “Family Matters” and son of William Daniels (b. 1927) in “The Graduate.”

* Ava Gardner (b. 1922) was the daughter of Lorne Greene, who would have been a proud papa at the age of 7, in “Earthquake.”

* Tom Hanks (b. 1957) was the son of Sally Field (b. 1946) in “Forrest Gump.” (Hanks had some romantic feelings for Field in a previous movie, “Punchline,” in which they both played comics.)

* Laurence Harvey (b. 1928) was the son of Angela Lansbury (b. 1925) in “The Manchurian Candidate.” Talk about child brides.

* Michael Fox (b. 1961) was the son of Crispin Glover (b. 1964) and Lea Thompson (b. 1961) in “Back to the Future.”

Also, though their birth dates are not that far apart, it is interesting that Piper Laurie (b. 1932) played the mother of Sissy Spacek (b. 1949) in “Carrie” and Spacek’s sister in “The Grass Harp.”

And somehow we don’t find it surprising that Zeppo Marx (b. 1901) could be the son of Groucho Marx (b. 1890), his real-life brother, in “Horse Feathers.”

EASY FOR THEM TO SAY: Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole recently compared himself to Presidents Truman and Eisenhower, saying: “We’re not articulate or whatever, but we like to tell the truth. . . .”

Dole sounded more like a Southland political figure, Rep. Sonny Bono (R-Palm Springs). Bono once expressed the wish that he were more articulate, adding: “If I could be like these guys, I would love it. But, you know, that’s something I guess I’m gonna have to learn, how to throw that articulation out there.”

I BRAKE FOR CAR SALESMEN: David Kase of Palos Verdes Estates sent in a flier from an automobile dealership that apparently advises buyers to take a spin around the neighborhood in their new car, then bring it in for minor repairs. After all, the articulation might need adjusting.

miscelLAny:

UCLA’s basketball program, you may have heard, is being investigated over the sale of a car registered in the name of coach Jim Harrick to the sister of a recruit. Ironically, the Bruin basketball team’s pocket schedule for this season contains an ad for a car loan company.
