Rockwell International Corp. said Tuesday it has completed the previously announced sale of its Graphic Systems subsidiary to a New York-based investment firm and the subsidiary’s managers for about $600 million.

The Stonington Partners investment firm and Graphics Systems management will operate the unit under a newly formed company called Goss Graphic Systems Inc., Rockwell said. Graphic Systems, with roughly $700 million in sales and 2,600 employees, is the world’s leading supplier of web offset printing press systems for the newspaper and commercial printing industry.

The Chicago-area unit is one of several businesses that Rockwell has shed in recent years as it focuses on its core electronics, automation and automotive operations. The company expects to conclude the $3.2-billion sale of its aerospace and defense business to Boeing Co. in early December.
