Obituaries : Janet Estelle Jones; Active in Presbyterian Church

Janet Estelle Jones, a 21-year county resident, died Monday at her Ventura home following a long battle with lung cancer. She was 64.

She was born April 13, 1932, in Roswell, N.M.

Jones moved to Ventura from Lodi and became an active member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, elder and clerk of session for a number of years. Her favorite activity was to serve as registrar for Eastminster’s Vacation Bible School.

Jones was also active in the Presbytery of Santa Barbara, serving on the Congregational Life Committee and the subcommittee to review church records in the Tri-Counties.

A member of the Assistance League of Ventura County since 1992, she served on the organization’s board of directors and chaired several committees.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Shelley Jones, and daughter, Cynthia Estelle Jones of Sonoma.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Eastminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dan Stevens officiating. Private burial will be at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
