INS Officers to Visit San Juan Macias

Share

Two Immigration and Naturalization Service officers will visit San Juan Macias, an immigrant assistance organization, today to answer questions and assist applicants with the citizenship process.

“The officers will be here to help people who have especially difficult or complicated cases,” said Maria Campos, a supervisor at San Juan Macias, a nonprofit organization.

“People can also come to change their old green cards, which expired Sept. 20, to the new pink, green cards,” Campos said. The cards, though now issued in pink, are still known as green cards.

INS spokesman Rico Cabrera said the officers who will visit are part of the INS’ Information Outreach Team, which tries to make the agency’s services more accessible to the public.

“It saves people a trip to the main downtown office, which is more convenient, especially if you live in the Valley,” Cabrera said.

There is no charge to attend the event, which will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the San Juan Macias offices, 13672 Van Nuys Blvd.

The organization charges $75 for processing citizenship applications. The fee pays for assistance with INS paperwork, photographs, fingerprints, educational materials for the citizenship exam and postage, Campos said.
