College to Auction Off 4 Upright Pianos
No longer appropriate for teaching purposes, four well-used pianos from the Moorpark College music department will be sold to the highest bidder as surplus property.
Ventura County Community College District trustees decided this week that the upright pianos should be among other unusable items scheduled to be auctioned off at a districtwide surplus sale.
College President James Walker said the instruments need some work, but that they could be repaired and put to good use.
“They’re good buys,” Walker said. “It’s a good opportunity, especially if somebody is handy with their hands. They just can’t be used for instruction anymore.”
The pianos will join a list of other district-owned surplus property to be sold at auction later this school year. A date has not been set.
“We collect surplus property from all over the district, then we have a sale at one specific time,” Walker said.
For more information about the auction, contact the district office at 654-6412.
The decision to sell the pianos coincides with the dedication of the new Moorpark College performing arts center, which will be held Saturday at 7 p.m.
