Westcorp: The Irvine financial services holding company, whose principal subsidiaries are Western Financial Bank and WFS Financial Inc. reported net income of $3.5 million, or 13 cents a share, for the third quarter, which included a special assessment charge of $12 million for the Savings Assn. Insurance Fund. A year ago, the company had net income of $9.1 million, or 35 cents a share. For the nine-month period, net income was up 1% to $24 million, or 92 cents a share, from $23.7 million, or 92 cents a share. Total assets were unchanged at $3.2 billion.
