Holden Demands Copies of Arena Proposal From City Staff

Los Angeles City Councilman Nate Holden Friday demanded that city staff immediately release earlier drafts of an agreement between the city and the owners of the Los Angeles Kings over the proposed development of a new hockey and basketball arena next to the Convention Center downtown, and called on a mayoral aide to stop working on the project.

Holden, who along with Councilman Joel Wachs has been a vigorous opponent of the proposal, said he is tired of secret negotiations on the deal, which would cost taxpayers millions. His motion, which asks that council members be provided with all 16 draft proposals that have been reviewed by city staff, will be considered by the full council next week.

Holden also wrote to Mayor Richard Riordan’s assistant chief of staff, Steve Sugerman, and ordered him to “cease and desist” any activity connected to the arena project.
