Start Spreading the Tarp: 100% Chance of Rain Today

A forecast calling for heavy rain and gusting winds up to 30 mph has put Game 1 of the World Series between the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves, scheduled for tonight in Yankee Stadium, in jeopardy.

If the game is rained out, Game 1 will be pushed back to Sunday night, and Game 2 will move to Monday night, a scheduled off day. If the first two games are played in New York by Monday, Games 3, 4 and 5 will be played, as scheduled, in Atlanta on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 100% chance of rain today, with the possibility of late-afternoon thundershowers. Rain is expected to continue through tonight before tapering off to showers Sunday morning. The weather service is predicting a 70% chance of rain Sunday.

Atlanta Manager Bobby Cox said he has not considered shuffling his rotation in case of a rainout, but a postponement probably would force Yankee Manager Joe Torre to use struggling left-hander Kenny Rogers for Game 4. Torre is contemplating a three-man rotation of Andy Pettitte, Jimmy Key and David Cone.
