No Panic for Dismal Exhibition Season

Although the Clippers, who play at Vancouver tonight, have lost five of six exhibitions, Coach Bill Fitch isn’t ready to panic.

“We’ve got two more exhibition games to go and a week after that [before the regular season opens] to put it together,” Fitch said. “The last thing that comes to my mind is panic right now. What we’ve got to do is to find out who our rotation is going to be, and that’s like trying to win the lottery right now. One night a guy shows up and the next night he doesn’t.”

Center Stanley Roberts, who hasn’t played in the exhibition season, may play against the Grizzlies tonight. Dwayne Schintzius, who sat out Tuesday night’s exhibition against the Philadelphia 76ers because of a stomach virus, is probable. Guard Terry Dehere, who sprained a knee ligament against Philadelphia, did not make the trip.

Fitch, when informed that Roberts was thankful that Monday was the last day of two-a-day practices at UC Irvine: “You can be the first to tell him that Christmas comes once a year, on the 25th of December.”
