Fluor Daniel in Line for Contract

Fluor Daniel Corp. may get a seven-year contract worth as much as $150 million to design and manage improvements at the Energy Department’s Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, the department said Thursday.

The contract, which involves as much as $800 million in improvements to some of the laboratory’s nuclear facilities, could be awarded within a month, the DOE said.

Irvine-based Fluor Daniel has proposed opening an office in New Mexico’s Espinola Valley, a move that could add 200 new jobs in the region, said Tom Garcia, director of institutional development for the laboratory.

The Los Alamos complex includes the nation’s only full-service plutonium facility. Part of the contract involves upgrading electrical, plumbing, safety, and other systems at the plant.
