Police Department Open House Set to Recruit, Test Candidates
The Los Angeles Police Department will hold an open house Sunday to show off its equipment, recruit officers and test candidates for employment.
Exhibits will be on display at the Elysian Park Police Academy from 9 a.m to 3 p.m., with the 2 1/2-hour written entrance exam offered continuously from 8 a.m. Fifteen specialized LAPD units--from K-9 to underwater dive team, bomb squad to mounted police--will have displays, and visitors can tour the academy.
The LAPD is hiring about 100 people each month. Candidates must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, be a U.S. citizen or be applying for citizenship, be at least 5 feet tall and have never been convicted of a felony. Entry-level jobs pay about $37,000.
