It’s a raging teen haunt.

That just about sums up Knott’s Berry Farm’s 24th annual Halloween Haunt that runs for 13 spooky days, ending Saturday.

Teen boys love taking their dates to Knott’s Scary Farm to show off how brave they can be in the company of mutants, goblins and other creepy things. Dateless teens get into the gory glory in the walk-through mazes by popping out of dark corners, scaring other unsuspecting guests.

To get in, you have to be at least 12 and not in costume. Once inside, many scare-fest goers actually do seem spooked; they keep their heads down and their eyes searching for safe ground while walking through fog-heavy streets. Still, monsters with paranormal paraphernalia find ways to get in their face.

There’s smile time, too, especially at the Deadly Dating Game, where people are grabbed from the audience by Stink Martindale, Vanna Fright and Doc Severed-head--characters based on truly scary folks.

But if the Carnival of Death gets a little too gloomy, there’s always blaring monster rock and smooth zombie moves on the dance floors.
