Huntington Beach Boxer Headlines Card in Irvine
Junior bantamweight Johnny “Chispita” Vasquez of Huntington Beach will try to revive his career in tonight’s 10-round main event at the Irvine Marriott against Edgar Decena of Colima, Mexico.
Vasquez (8-5, five knockouts) has taken some time away from boxing since he was stopped by Martin Solorio of Tijuana in April. Decena (18-12-1, six knockouts) will try to extend Vasquez’s losing streak to three.
In the semi-main event, Fullerton featherweight Mike Semaza (14-1-2, five knockouts) faces Oscar Saenz (10-5, eight knockouts) of San Ysidro in an eight-round bout.
The featured fighter in the undercard is promising welterweight Raul Franco of Long Beach. Franco, the 1996 national Golden Gloves champion, won his August debut in a knockout of San Diego’s Roy Pegues. Franco will be tested against San Diego Oleverio Ramirez (2-3, two knockouts).
Tickets priced at $25, $30 and $35 are on sale for the 7:30 show today at the Marriott.
