Kids Will Go Bananas Over Library Event

One of the banana twins from the children’s television series “Bananas in Pajamas” will make a live appearance with Councilwoman Karyn Foley at the Calabasas Public Library this week.

Children and their parents are encouraged to bring their blankets and teddy bears and listen to a bedtime story at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The library is located at 23645 Calabasas Road.

The syndicated live-action series “Bananas in Pajamas,” the latest craze in children’s entertainment, features twin bananas with teddy bear friends in a storybook world.

The Australian-produced series, which airs daily on KCAL-TV Channel 9, has been a hit with toddlers, said Sheila Hein, community library manager. Some predict the show may even match the popularity enjoyed by a certain purple dinosaur.

The bedtime stories, which Foley will read, are geared toward pre-kindergarten through third-grade kids, though everyone is welcome to attend.

Hein said attendees are encouraged to wear their pajamas and promises that the library staff will do the same to kick off its first Pajama Storytime.

“This is just a fun, different thing to do,” Hein said. “It has been quite successful in other areas of the county, so we’ll see if we get a good response here.”

The stories, read each Wednesday of this month, will be about Thanksgiving and other characteristics of fall, Hein said.
