Funke Leads Orange Coast Past Irvine Valley

Jessica Funke’s goal eight minutes into the the second half was the winner as Orange Coast beat visiting Irvine Valley, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer game Tuesday.

Orange Coast (12-2-2, 5-1), is second in the conference and ranked seventh in the state. The Pirates will visit top-ranked Cypress Friday.

Irvine is 3-8-3, 1-4-1.

In other conference games:

Cypress 10, Rancho Santiago 0--Cypress, the No. 1 team in the state, remained undefeated (12-0, 6-0). Colby Morgan, Vedda Desatoff and Lori Harris scored two goals each for Cypress.

Fullerton 9, Golden West 0--Amber Duarte scored five goals and Jenny Cunningham had two for Fullerton (3-8, 3-3).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:

Rancho Santiago 5, Orange Coast 2--Juan Lopez scored three goals, two of them unassisted, to lead Rancho Santiago (12-1-2, 7-0-1), which is ranked third in the state. Steve Servantes, who assisted Lopez on one goal, scored a goal and Armando Hernandez finished Rancho Santiago’s scoring.
