U.S. District Court Judge Richard Paez on Wednesday denied the motion of former King owner Bruce McNall to have his sentencing hearing postponed from Dec. 5 to June 5, 1997.

Said Paez: “It’s time we put this case to rest for everybody.”

But that does not mean McNall will be sentenced in December. Paez asked for additional information from McNall’s defense counsel and federal prosecutors and then will make a decision regarding sentencing. It could still occur in June, after the completion of a trial involving three former McNall business associates.

The government was seeking to sentence McNall without further delay. He entered a guilty plea almost two years ago to one count of conspiracy, two counts of bank fraud and one count of wire fraud.

McNall’s counsel said after the hearing that it is “important for Bruce to honestly lay out what happened for the court,” and for the court to get the complete picture of his involvement.
