Celebration U.S.A., a patriotic youth organization based in the city, has been invited to represent California at the Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., next summer.

“We represented California in that parade in 1995, and so it’s a real thrill to be asked to do it again,” said Paula Burton, founder and producer of Celebration U.S.A. The group comprises 27 Orange County youths, ranging in age from 5 to 17, who perform patriotic songs.

Burton, an elementary school teacher and Villa Park resident, said the singers will fly to Washington on July 2 and will ride on a California-themed float on Constitution Avenue before a July 4 crowd that usually exceeds a half million.

Burton said the singers also will perform in various historic spots in Washington.

Celebration U.S.A. this year headlined a show at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, and the group is scheduled to sing Monday at the Veterans Day event at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park.

Auditions for the singing group will be in January, Burton said.
