From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Fed up with Miami’s $68-million budget deficit and possible cuts in services, a group of citizens wants to go beyond fighting City Hall. They want to get rid of it. Citizens for Lower Taxes wants to abolish the city, which just turned 100 this summer, as soon as possible. They say corruption and financial mismanagement have resulted in poor services and higher taxes. The solution, the group says, is to divide Miami into smaller community governments, which would slash taxes in half. However, despite the problems, city officials contend that the worst is over and that Miami will be financially sound again in two years.
