Times Staff and Wire Reports

Saying it was guilty of doing just about everything wrong, USAir said it will reinvent itself, starting with a new name: US Airways. Executives of the Arlington, Va.-based airline announced a wide-ranging overhaul but gave few specifics. The new name and logo--a stylized version of the U.S. flag--will be phased in in 1997. USAir stock gained 12.5 cents to close at $20.625 on the NYSE. . . . ValuJet Inc. reported a third-quarter loss of $7.5 million before a charge to cover the costs of its three-month shutdown. The discount airline’s loss from operations was 14 cents a share, contrasted with net income of $22.7 million, or 38 cents a year ago.
