High Wind Postpones Launching of Shuttle
With dangerously high wind expected through the weekend, NASA postponed this week’s launch of space shuttle Columbia until Tuesday.
Columbia was supposed to lift off Friday on a 16-day science mission, but NASA on Wednesday bumped the launch to Saturday to accommodate the flight of an unmanned rocket, then delayed it further because of the weekend weather.
The flight was supposed to begin last Friday, but NASA wanted to analyze booster insulation damage from the last shuttle launch. Columbia’s boosters have since been declared safe to fly.
