ADC Telecom to Acquire Cirrus Logic Unit

ADC Telecommunications Inc. said it will pay $23 million in cash to acquire the wireless infrastructure equipment group of Pacific Communications Sciences Inc., a unit of Cirrus Logic Inc. unit. The business to be acquired produces base station equipment for wireless communications providers such as AT&T; Wireless Services Inc. ADC, a Minneapolis-based maker of telecommunications equipment, would merge the newly acquired business with several existing businesses to form a wireless systems group that would be based in San Diego. Fremont, Calif.-based Cirrus said it has reorganized its remaining Pacific Communications units as part of its strategy to focus on its core semiconductor business and to become more efficient. ADC shares rose $2 to $37.75, and Cirrus shares slid 12.5 cents to $21.375. Both trade on Nasdaq.
