Prosecutors Decline to File Charges in Woman’s Fatal Fall

Prosecutors have declined to file charges against a Houston man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after a co-worker he was having sex with fell to her death from an eighth-floor hotel balcony in Industry.

Robert Salazar, 33, was arrested Thursday in the death of Sandra Lorena Orellana, 27. But a district attorney’s spokeswoman said Friday that there was insufficient evidence to charge him.

Salazar and Orellana worked for a Houston employment agency and were staying at the Industry Hills Sheraton on a business trip, authorities said. Orellana’s body was found on a patio at the Sheraton on Wednesday morning.

Deputies initially investigated the death as a suicide. But Salazar came forward and said he and Orellana were having sex on the balcony outside her room when she fell. Salazar returned to his room and did not notify police, authorities said.

If results of an autopsy show evidence of sexual assault or conflict with his story, Salazar may still face prosecution, authorities said.
