Costa Mesa Rushers Double Up in Rout of Artists

Andre Robinson, Steve Herzog and Vince Hamade each scored two touchdowns to lead Costa Mesa to a 47-7 Pacific Coast League victory over Laguna Beach.

Robinson, who finished with 44 yards in nine carries, started the Mustangs scoring with a two-yard run in the first quarter. Steve Herzog duplicated the effort later in the quarter with another two-yard scoring run, giving Costa Mesa a 13-0 lead.

Robinson began the second quarter with a five-yard touchdown run, putting the Mustangs up 19-0. Herzog followed Robinson with a three-yard scoring run to give Costa Mesa a 27-0 lead. Herzog rushed for a team-high 139 yards in 21 carries for Costa Mesa (6-4, 3-2).

Hamade, who finished with 79 yards in 14 carries, gave Costa Mesa a 34-0 halftime lead with a nine-yard touchdown run. He also scored on a five-yard run in the third quarter.

Jimmy Herzog, Steve’s younger brother, finished Costa Mesa’s scoring with a three-yard touchdown in the fourth.
