Re “Outcomes on State Propositions Yield Paradoxes and Contradictions,” news analysis, Nov. 7:

There is nothing “paradoxical” about the election results. Ballot measures which were obviously the work of special interests--207, 211, 212, the HMO measures and 217--were defeated. Measures which sought to limit govern- ment--209, 215 and 218--passed. The measure which promised reform--208--passed. The measure which promised to help the needy--213--passed.

The conclusion to be drawn? Collectively voters weren’t fooled. Fundamentally voters asserted their desire for less government interference in their lives and greater fairness in society.
