Bruins Are Bruised and Battered

The 35-17 pasting UCLA took in Tucson may have longer-lasting effect, going into a week of preparation to play USC.
The Bruins, who have been relatively injury-free, were struck heavily in the offensive and defensive lines--areas where they already lack depth.
Right guard Andy Meyers will undergo an MRI examination today on his left knee, which doctors fear has cartilage damage or worse; and his running-mate, right tackle Chad Overhauser, suffered a sprained left ankle.
Defensively, end Travis Kirschke, a senior, suffered a nerve injury in his right shoulder, and nose guard Jeff Ruckman suffered pain in a knee that has already cost him two games after it was injured at Tennessee.
Quarterback Cade McNown bruised a hip and left the game Saturday, being replaced by Steve Buck, who sprained his throwing shoulder. McNown then re-entered the game and was bounced around by the Arizona defense until game’s end.
None of the players has yet been ruled out of the USC game.
