House Democrats Select Leadership

House Democrats reelected their existing leaders by acclamation in a closed-door meeting. Rep. Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri was selected as minority leader and Rep. David E. Bonior of Michigan was reelected party whip. Rep. Vic Fazio of West Sacramento remains chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and Rep. Barbara B. Kennelly of Connecticut vice chairman of the caucus. In the elections Nov. 5, Democrats narrowed what was a 38-seat Republican Party advantage in the House to 22 seats, 228-206.
