President, Legislators Reach Compromise

Belarus’ hard-line president and lawmakers who want to impeach him signed a compromise after a night of Russian-mediated talks, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported. President Alexander G. Lukashenko said he had agreed that the results of a referendum on extending his powers would not be binding and that the parliament would not try to impeach him. The referendum is scheduled for Sunday.
