Broten Acquired From New Jersey

In a move to add depth at forward, the Kings acquired center Neal Broten from the New Jersey Devils on Friday for future considerations. Broten, 36, a 15-year NHL veteran, played for King Coach Larry Robinson when he was an assistant with the Devils and is the last player in the NHL who played on the gold-medal U.S. Olympic team in 1980.

“What he brings is a lot of experience,” Robinson said. “He may be 36, but the guy is in such great shape.

“He is also a guy who scored some big goals for us the year [New Jersey] won the [Stanley] Cup.”

Broten, who has not played this season, will be assigned to the Kings’ International Hockey League affiliate, the Phoenix Roadrunners.
