Cincinnati’s Lead Is Unchallenged

The top four teams held their spots in the Associated Press poll, with Cincinnati, Kansas, Wake Forest and Utah all winning their season-opening games by an average of 25 points.

The Bearcats, who beat Western Carolina, 99-72, in their first game as a top-ranked team in 34 years, again were the dominant choice of a national media panel, receiving 49 first-place votes and 1,673 points.

Villanova moved up one spot to fifth and was followed by Duke, Michigan, Kentucky, Iowa State and Clemson. Arizona defeated then-No. 7 North Carolina to take over at No. 11. Then came Syracuse, UCLA, North Carolina, Fresno State, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Texas, New Mexico and Indiana.

Stanford was 21st with newcomer Tulsa next. Boston College, Minnesota and George Washington rounded out the Top 25.

Tulsa was propelled by its upset last week of then-No. 5 UCLA.
