Spanish Ambassador Barred in Dispute

Cuba accused Spain’s new conservative government of “flagrant interference” in its political affairs and withdrew its acceptance of a new Spanish ambassador. The diplomatic crisis erupted after repeated criticism of Cuba’s Communist system by Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, who has called for democratic reforms on the Caribbean island. Relations between the two countries are at their lowest point since 1990.
