Blood Drive Makes a Holiday Push

Share

With the holiday slowdown in donations now under way, officials at United Blood Services of Ventura County have come up with a seasonal incentive: free pumpkin pie and TV football to anyone donating a pint of blood today.

“We have been hesitant to open on holidays and weekends because we’re not always able to recruit donors,” said Christine Fleming, whose job at United Blood Services is to round up donors.

United Blood Services supplies blood to all of the hospitals in Ventura County. It also replaces the blood used by Ventura County patients at Los Angeles-area hospitals such as Cedars Sinai and UCLA Medical Center.

The special holiday blood drive is a plea to potential donors to take a few minutes out of their Thanksgiving holiday to supply blood for the blood bank, said Carolyn Tyner, the nonprofit agency’s executive director.

To make an appointment, call 654-8104, or show up at the United Blood Services office at 1758 Eastman Ave. in Ventura. The center will be open today from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
