Re “Strict U.S. Sentencing Laws Are Tipping Scales of Justice,” Nov. 24.
While pleading for the release of convicted drug dealer Bobbie Marshall and backing Judge Terry Hatter’s continued refusal to allow the timely execution of Marshall’s sentence, The Times asks in its plea for leniency, “Where does Marshall do the most good to society?” The better question to ask is, “Where will Marshall do the least harm to society?”
Prison, while not a pleasant abode for Marshall, is a location that will prevent Marshall from again dealing misery to the people of Los Angeles, and that is the place where he belongs. Marshall has been given dozens of chances in his life to change his ways. True justice does not require that he be given another.
