An 11-year-old honor student who packed a steak knife in her lunch box can have her expulsion wiped from her school records, but a decision to keep her on probation has her family fighting mad.

The school board voted Tuesday to clear Charlotte Kirk’s record if she stays out of trouble the rest of the school year. The board also continued her probation at Hopkins Middle School for that time.

Carl Kirk said he would fight his daughter’s probation in court.

Charlotte was suspended after asking if she could use the knife to cut her leftover chicken. She returned about 10 days later, having received a suspended 20-day suspension and probation.

Criminal charges were dropped when prosecutors said Charlotte never meant to break school rules.
