Ted Myers; Veteran Newscaster at Channel 9

Ted Myers, 82, the voice and face on Channel 9 local television news since its inception. Myers retired less than two years ago from a career that spanned 60 years of radio and television news, in which he reported the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the grand opening of the Los Angeles County Music Center and Museum of Art and the fatal explosion of the space shuttle. Myers began his career in 1934 as a radio announcer at KFAC, leaving the station for two years to work as assistant radio editor of The Times. In 1938, he was hired to work at KFI radio, which eventually became KHJ-TV Channel 9. It became KCAL-TV in 1990. During his long tenure, the Channel 9 News won an Emmy. In addition to telling the news, often ad-libbing on breaking stories such as the 1968 assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, Myers was host of “The Million Dollar Movie” for several years. He was also the primary station announcer. On Nov. 25 in Los Angeles of lung cancer.
