SEATTLE —
The Roman Catholic archbishop of Seattle has leukemia and is undergoing kidney dialysis, church officials said Tuesday.
Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy, 64, spiritual leader of 353,000 Catholics in Western Washington, was admitted Sunday to Providence Seattle Medical Center, diocese spokesman Jim Britt said.
Murphy had recently been mentioned as a candidate to head the Chicago archdiocese after the death two weeks ago of Murphy’s friend and mentor, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin.
