Spotlight: VeriSign Gets $30-Million ID System Investment

Mountain View-based VeriSign Inc. said three institutional investors and 10 companies involved in Internet commerce invested $30 million in its system to verify the identities of people doing business on the Net. The financing is triple the amount previously invested, and the list of investors--which includes Cisco Systems Inc., Comcast Corp. and First Data Corp.--suggests that VeriSign’s technology will be used broadly as more goods and services are sold via computer.
